Software in Business and Commerce
State of art Graphical User Interface (GUI) have been developed using Java
and J2EE Technologies. The use of Object Oriented Development renders
itself to many facets and flavors. Some of the standard approaches and
development methodologies that have been used for developing applications
are Agile, Waterfall to mention a few. The architecture on N-Tier System
has provided the advantage of thin-clients for the user for performing
operations on Corporate Data and the thin-client has become
to be the mainstay in the GUI-world today.
The ease of offering the look-and-feel from a single source
and point-of-control has benefited the companies in maintenance and
upgrade costs. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) methodologies have
been adopted at various customer sites to manage the legacy system interfaces and
provide a flexible and extensible coupling and enterprise wide integration
among applications.
Open Source as Stable Platform:
The work of many resourceful and talented software developers has paid off
richly in the coming of Open Source for commerce and business activities.
It has led to the evolution of standard frameworks on which many of the
software development activities are positioned. The advantage of leveraging
the Open Source is also the availability of skills in the market and a
standardized way of adopting software frameworks for architecture and
development of the software solution to businesses.
Distributed Computing:
Distributed Computing has been the core to leverage the power of running transaction
in a distributed infrastructure, spread around in the Corporate . Using Object
Oriented Technologies such Java/J2EE and Web Services in the technology
implementation has been the flavors in the Object Oriented domain.
The Power of Databases:
When it comes to ‘persistence’ in data, the power of databases is unquestionable. The
commercial platforms run on different platforms such as Oracle from Oracle Corporation,
SQL Server from Microsoft Corporation, DB2 from IBM Corporation to state a few in the
vendor space. There is also the trend to adopting MYSQL from the Open Source
forum and some of the corporations are in the process of examining the security
and industrial strength gradability in Open Source platforms.
